Access and Facilities

Finding us

Castle Corner Carpark lies south of Glencaple on the B725 road south from Dumfries. There is a railway station in Dumfries and a limited bus service from the town to Glencaple.  The national  'Annan to Caerlaverock Cycle Route,' lies immediately beside the beginning of The Flooders Trail.

Core path

The Flooders Trail - the core path - is criss crossed with a network of intriguing smaller paths.  Each path creates a 'mini-adventure' of its own.  At certain times of the year you can walk out to enjoy the eerie solitude of the salt marshes while a short detour inland leads to Caerlaverock Castle itself, the Old Castle site and the superb historic vantage point of Ward Law.

Toilets can be found a few miles along the road at Glencaple and at the WWT Caerlaverock Wetland Centre

Food & Drink

The visitor to Caerlaverock Estate is well served with a choice of places offering refreshment to hungry walkers and explorers.

Caerlaverock Tea Room and Shop, on the quayside at Glencaple, open throughout the year, is a short drive back towards Dumfries from Castle Corner car park.

There is a tea room in the grounds of Caerlaverock Castle.

WWTrust Caerlaverock also has a cafe offering light meals and snacks.
